Dunhill Shell 1969 142 F/T - Estate
A Pristine Patent-Era Suffix British Icon From the legendary workshops of London comes this magnificent, museum-quality 1969 Dunhill Shell Briar. A stellar example from the late-sixties production era, the shank carries a crystal-clear "MADE IN ENGLAND 9" date suffix, firmly establishing its 1969 birth date. Boasting a Group 4 size designation, this piece represents Dunhill at the absolute height of its post-war mid-century craftsmanship, making it a dream find for the serious estate collector.
The Iconic 142 Dublin is one of Dunhill’s most elegant. It features an elongated, stately shank paired with a perfectly proportioned bowl, creating an incredibly graceful and balanced profile. This model is finished with its original vulcanite fishtail (F/T) stem, highly favored for its exceptionally slim, comfortable bit presentation.
The sandblast on this specimen is phenomenal: deep, craggy, and heavily textured, showing off gorgeous ring grain wrapping around the bowl, contrasted beautifully against the iconic, brilliant white spot inlaid on the stem.
Condition: Pristine / Near-Mint. Finding a late-60s Dunhill in this state is an absolute rarity. The craggy sandblasted rim is completely clean and perfectly crisp with zero scorching, the inner bowl is perfectly round, the nomenclature stamps are deeply legible, and the stem is free of oxidation, holding a flawless mirror-black shine.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
