Originally produced in St. Claude, France, Ropp’s historic Romulus series (stamped in classical Roman epigraphy as RCMVLVS) was dedicated to pieces that exhibited extraordinary natural grain structures. This delightful A92 Acorn is a masterclass in compact elegance, proving that an honest, everyday budget pipe can still feature the jaw-dropping texturing usually reserved for high-end artisan briars.
Dramatic Concentric Ring Grain Do not let its compact size fool you—the sandblasting on this specimen is absolutely world-class. It coaxes out a beautifully tight, uniform cascade of stacked concentric ring grain that ripples entirely around the bowl. Finished in a warm, dark chestnut contrast stain, the texture provides a marvellous tactile feel in the hand, making it a visually striking piece from any angle.
Condition: Very Good / Estate. This pipe has been smoked and loved but remains in wonderful structural condition. The chamber is clean, sound, and ready to pack. The sandblasted rim shows no heavy modern wear or distortion. The crisp factory nomenclature on the smooth under-panel is beautifully sharp: ROPP (in an oval) over RCMVLVS, flanked by A92 / Selected.
Stem: The original vulcanite stem has been buffed to a deep, healthy gloss, completely free of any oxidation or tooth chattering. The Silver factory logo is clean, flush, and bright.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
