Dunhill Tanshell 1969 'FET F/T' Prince - Estate
A highly collectible piece of late-1960s British pipe-making history, this 1969 Dunhill Tanshell is an exceptional example of the White Spot's mastery of the sandblast technique. Carved in the iconic 'FET' shape code—a robust, beautifully proportioned Group 4 prince—this piece features a classic fishtail (F/T) vulcanite stem that has been meticulously detailed to a pristine, mirror-black finish.
The sandblast on this piece is remarkably deep and craggy, showcasing a stunning concentric ring pattern wrapping around the bowl that gives it a wonderful, tactile feel in the hand. True to the classic Tanshell line, the pipe features its signature warm, sandy-golden contrast stain. The under-shank stampings are remarkably crisp and perfectly legible, featuring the bold DUNHILL TANSHELL, MADE IN ENGLAND 9 (dating it precisely to 1969), and the shape code FET F/T alongside the ④T group stamp.
Condition Report: The vulcanite stem is almost immaculate and completely free of oxidation. The sandblasted rim shows some light, typical darkening hidden within the natural crevices of the briar—a characteristic very common to vintage Tanshells that highlights its authentic history. A wonderful, addition to any serious Dunhill rotation.
