Georg Jensen "Straight Grain" 9597 Bent Acorn - 1970s Estate
A Masterclass in Danish Contrast Curation and Fluid Geometry
When a pipe is explicitly stamped "Straight Grain" by a legendary mid-century Danish factory, expectations run high. This exceptional Bent Acorn from Georg Jensen doesn't just meet that bar—it clears it with room to spare. Sculpted with a sweeping, fluid stance, the voluptuous bowl tapers softly back inward at the rim, providing a flawlessly rounded three-dimensional canvas for an absolutely breathtaking grain display.
A Fiery, Three-Dimensional Canvas
The briar on this estate piece is a total showstopper. Seamlessly matched to the Acorn's organic geometry, tight, unbroken ribbons of straight grain cascade down the flanks of the bowl like molten silk. The deep contrast finish highlights the intense variegation of the wood, creating a striking depth that demands to be turned under a loupe. The underside of the shank and the smoothly rounded rim top perfectly cap off the presentation with a dense, contrasting cluster of swirling birdseye.
Condition: Excellent / Barely Smoked. This estate specimen is remarkably clean, showing signs of only the most minimal and careful enjoyment. The factory chamber wall and smooth, rolled-in rim are pristine. The nomenclature—including the coveted Straight Grain script and the 9597 shape number—remains entirely crisp, sharp, and perfectly legible.
Stem: The original vulcanite stem retains its high-gloss mirror finish and features the iconic white "GJ" logo stamped sharply on the saddle side. In the spirit of complete transparency, there is one minuscule, cosmetic handling indent near the lip of the stem—barely registering to the touch and easily overlooked on an otherwise flawless survivor.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
