W.Ø. Larsen Grade 7 Horn-Extended Straight Grain Chimney - 1970s Estate
An Elite, Museum-Quality Masterwork of Mid-Century Danish High-Design
For connoisseurs of rare Danish briar, this W.Ø. Larsen Handmade Grade 7 is an absolute holy grail. Stretching an impressive 170mm in length and anchored by a towering 65mm Chimney bowl, this rare specimen embodies the breathtaking, avant-garde elegance that defined Copenhagen's most famous tobacco boutique during its golden age.
Breathtaking Geometry & Woodwind Stem Artistry
The design dynamics of this piece are nothing short of spectacular. A towering, stately bowl boasts a dense, unbroken cascade of vertical straight grain running down both flanks, converging into a dense field of bird’s-eye on the heel. The stummel transitions into an impossibly slender, needle-thin briar shank before meeting a flawless, genuine translucent horn extension.
The handmade vulcanite saddle stem is an absolute work of art, featuring sculptural, razor-sharp turned details—including a striking, thin flared disc and a prominent rounded bead—that mimic the elegant, precise forms of a classical oboe reed.
Condition: Outstanding / Estate. Meticulously restored to showroom condition. The magnificent, deeply craggy plateau rim top is immaculate, free of inner charring or cake overflow, showcasing beautifully textured volcanic nodules. The internal chamber is perfectly sound. The factory stamping on the under-shank is crisp, deep, and perfectly preserved: a bold 7 struck over W.Ø. LARSEN / HANDMADE / MADE IN DENMARK.
Stem & Horn: The genuine horn extension has been polished to highlight its natural, creamy grain patterns and transitions perfectly smoothly. The ultra-thin, highly articulate vulcanite mouthpiece has been buffed to a mirror-black, glass-like shine with completely sharp, unmarred button geometry.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
