Dunhill Root Briar shape 705 "quaint" - 1974 Estate

€345.00

An Exceptionally Rare 1970s Patent-Era Masterpiece Featuring the Coveted 705 Zulu/Woodstock Profile and Flawless Root Briar Grain Alignment

The Architecture & London Pedigree For the serious Dunhill collector, this 1974 Root Briar is a textbook example of why the London factory’s patent-era pieces remain the global gold standard. Stamped with the highly elusive 705 shape code, this pipe is a masterclass in elegant proportion. It features a forward-tilted, beautifully contoured bowl that subtly tapers back at the crown, flowing into a remarkably slender, razor-straight shank. Because it is a Root Briar, it features no fills or sandpits; instead, the light grain-contrast stain showcases a brilliant topography of dense birdseye on the bowl flanks paired with fine straight-grain accents along the spine. Restored to a mirror-like factory gloss and fitted with its original sleek stem terminating in a comfortable fishtail bit, this is an incredibly rare collector's piece that smokes as beautifully as it presents.

Curation Notes:

  • Condition: Excellent restored estate condition. The stummel finish is smooth, deep, and brilliantly glossy. The rim is flat, dark, and perfectly crisp with no charring or out-of-round wear. The vulcanite stem is jet black.

  • Nomenclature: Perfectly crisp and readable. Left Shank: 705 followed by DUNHILL over ROOT BRIAR. Right Shank: MADE IN ENGLAND 14 denoting a 1974 manufacture date alongside the size and finish stamp 4R.

  • Included: Dunhill Pouch.

Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
