Founded in Copenhagen in 1954 by Per Georg Jensen, the Georg Jensen pipe workshop became legendary for blending traditional pipe geometry with organic Scandinavian curves before closing its doors in 2001. The Grand Prix series represented one of their staple classic lines, showcasing high-grade briar with clean, warm finishes. Shape #1608 takes the classic Canadian and infuses it with Danish flair—featuring a supple, slightly rounded heel, a smooth rim bevel, and a long shank that flows effortlessly into a slim vulcanite stem. The warm amber-chestnut contrast stain highlights tight cross-grain swirling around the bowl and flame grain trailing along the flanks.
Curation Notes:
Tier: Vintage Danish Estate / Collectible Classic
Condition: Excellent Restored Estate. The chamber is clean, reamed, and ready for smoke. The rim top and inner bevel remain crisp and unburnt with zero rim darkening. The briar displays a rich, warm glow with minimal handling marks consistent with careful use. The vulcanite stem is polished to a deep black shine, and the iconic white interlocked GJ logo on the stem flank is crisp and intact.
Nomenclature: Left shank stamped GEORG JENSEN over Made in Denmark PIPES. Right shank/underside stamped GRAND PRIX and shape number 1608. Stem features the classic white interlocked GJ emblem.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
