Dunhill Bruyere Group 5 Bent Billiard 51023 - 1978 Estate
An Exquisite, High-Presence British Icon in Exceptional, Well-Cared-For Estate Condition
For the discerning collector of historic English briar, this 1978 Alfred Dunhill Bruyere is an absolute center-piece. Showcasing the majestic proportions of a Group 5 frame, this classic Tapered Bent Billiard is a masterclass in London luxury, preserved in outstanding estate condition.
The Plum-Red Finish & Architecture
As Dunhill’s premier historic finish, the Bruyere is celebrated for its deep, regal plum-red hue. This specific 1978 stummel boasts a spectacular tight cross-grain climbing the flanks of the bowl, perfectly transitioning into a sprawling, dense sea of complex birdseye across the immaculate, unmarred rim. The finish remains remarkably bright, vibrant, and translucent, completely free of the darkening or dulling often seen on mid-century estates.
Mechanically, the pipe features a deeply satisfying, robust hand feel with excellent wall thickness. The hand-cut vulcanite taper stem sits entirely flush against the shank, proudly displaying the legendary, crisp white acrylic "White Spot" insert on top.
Curation Notes:
Condition: Outstanding Estate Condition. Thoroughly and gently sanitized, hand-buffed, and protected with premium carnauba wax. The internal draft hole is crisp, the chamber walls are rock-solid, and the rim is exceptionally clean. The vulcanite stem is deep jet-black with a mirror-like polish and absolutely zero oxidation.
Nomenclature: Stamped with absolute precision on the smooth underbelly of the shank:
51023 (Group 5, Tapered Bent Billiard configuration).
DUNHILL over BRUYERE.
MADE IN ENGLAND accompanied by the crisp, underlined 18 date suffix code, denoting a definitive 1978 production year.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
