Stanwell Sterling Sandblasted Pot Shape 88 - 1980s Estate
A Rugged, Muscular Danish Powerhouse with Pristine 925 Sterling Silver Accent
For enthusiasts of hearty, robust Scandinavian architecture, this vintage Stanwell Sterling is an absolute tank of a smoker. Dressed in a beautifully executed, tactile sandblast and relying on a total absence of nomenclature on the briar to emphasize its clean lines, this estate piece showcases a perfect marriage of rugged texture and refined silver luxury.
The Architecture & Tactile Blast
Cut to the iconic Shape 88—one of Stanwell's most celebrated, heavy-set straight designs—this pipe is a commanding take on the classic Pot/Billiard family. It features a thick-walled, insulating bowl with a robust, substantial hand feel that leads back into a thick, arrow-straight shank. The stummel is treated to a crisp, uniform sandblast that highlights the briar's natural growth rings, finished in a deep, brooding dark chocolate and espresso tone. The rim remains smooth, flat, and perfectly highlighted to showcase the tight birds-eye pattern beneath.
The stout shank terminates in a brilliant, heavy band of solid 925 sterling silver, deeply struck with the official STANWELL STERLING hallmark. A premium, hand-cut vulcanite saddle stem fits perfectly flush and snug against the silver mount, proudly displaying the classic white inlaid Stanwell "S" logo.
Curation Notes:
Condition: Outstanding Estate Condition. The silver has been brought to a mirror-bright luster. The chamber walls are completely sound and rock-solid, the rim is crisp, and the vulcanite stem is a deep, gleaming jet-black with microscopic chatter, that can be seen on incredibly close inspection - no oxidation.
Nomenclature: The briar is completely clean and unstamped, intentionally focusing attention on the rugged sandblast texture. The silver band is deeply and clearly stamped STANWELL STERLING.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
