Stanwell Sterling REGD Straight Billiard - 1960/70s Estate
An Exceptional Danish Interpretation of an English Classic, Featuring Crisp Stamping, a Hallmarked Sterling Band, and Highly Collectible Pre-1970s Briar
The Architecture & Danish Soul If you are looking for a quintessential Danish take on an English classic, this vintage Stanwell Sterling from the highly coveted Registration (REGD) Era hits every single note perfectly. Striking a beautiful balance between mid-century collectibility and robust, everyday utility, this Shape 03 is a masterclass in clean geometry and premium craftsmanship. Crafted in Denmark during a golden era when old-grade, tightly-grained briar was the factory standard, this pipe has been meticulously refreshed and is ready for the rotation.
Fitted with its original, tapered vulcanite mouthpiece that narrows gracefully to a slim bite zone, it features the historic, classic white Crowned "S" logo on the top flank. It wears a brilliant, genuine sterling silver shank band stamped Stanwell Sterling, adding a sharp, sophisticated flash of contrast against the rich briar and deep black vulcanite. Because this hails from the REGD era, you're getting exceptionally well-seasoned, lightweight vintage briar that smokes remarkably cool from the very first light.
Curation Notes:
Condition: Beautiful vintage estate condition. Given a multi-stage buff with pure carnauba wax.
The Rim & Chamber (As seen in Photos): Fully cleaned, squared, and free of any historic lava overflow. In the spirit of total transparency, there is a very tiny, minor nick on the inside edge of the bowl rim, which is entirely cosmetic and does not affect the chamber wall integrity or the pipe's classic silhouette. The chamber has been cleanly reamed back down to a fresh, healthy start.
The Bit & Button (As seen in the images): The vulcanite stem has been completely de-oxidized and polished to a beautiful gloss, preserving the original stamp. For accuracy, a light touch of historic tooth chatter remains near the button and is purely cosmetic.
Nomenclature: Ultra-crisp stamping on the wood. Left Shank: STANWELL over REGD No 969-48. Right Shank: Shape code 03.
Since everyone has their own preferred methods to clean and sterilise internals of the shank and stem, we have intentionally not done this.
